Slacklining is a global sport that is particularly popular in Europe (Germany, France and Switzerland, UK), North America, South America and Japan.
As the sport continues to grow and gain wider appeal, it’s worth knowing that regardless of where you live, there is probably a resource(s) available that helps you learn more about slacklining in your local area.
Here are some of the more established online slacklining resources to help you learn more about local clubs, laws regarding slacklining pertinent to you, and tips and tricks to get you started.
International Slackline Association (ISA) – Founded in 2015, the ISA is the governing body for slacklining that represents the sport globally and helps to grow it in popularity. They also certify slacklining and highlining equipment to achieve consistent and minimum standards. By purchasing certified gear, you are buying and utilizing equipment that has been independently tested and where the manufacturer has applied to the program and been approved to take part.
UIAA – The ISA joined the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) in 2019 as an Observing Member. Founded in 1932, the purpose of the Switzerland-based UIAA is to globally represent climbing and mountaineering so the inclusion of slacklining seems like an obvious extension and logical move given the growing popularity of the sport.
UK Slackline Assocation – If you live in the United Kingdom and are looking for a local resource with pertinent information for Brits, be sure to visit the site for more details. Check out their slackline map that shows local clubs across the UK.
Slack DB – Slack DB is a user-run online slacklining database. Users from around the world share info on equipment such as webbing, tree protectors, kits and sliders ad also share pics and knowledge to help one another.
Slackline U.S. – Slackline U.S is a founding member of the ISA but they specifically represent slacklining in the USA including industry education, events, conservation and more.
Slackline Germany – Germany is a founding member of the ISA and slacklining is very popular in this European country. Local slackline associations exist in major German regions including Berlin, Dresden and Rhein Main among others.
Easy Slacklining (France) – This France-based slacklining organization represents French slackliners and is written in French but the organization also has English speaking help available.
